She uses her life experiences to write poetry that is emotional, direct, clear, and relatable to women of all ages. Her writing style is deep in meaning and feeling, yet easy to understand.

She has honed her craft by taking creative writing college classes and has shared her poetry in schools, poetry slams, readings and womens groups. Her poetry has appeared in several chapbooks, published in 2003 and 2004 by 3Ps- PAT PRODUCTION PRESS, including What it Means to be a Woman. In 2004 she was a featured poet in a choreopoem entitled Another Woman Thang, produced and directed by In The Company of Poets.

Other published poems include On The Bus in an anthology by the Black History Museum Committee in 1978 and Katrina in Poetry Ink, tenth anniversary anthology in 2006. Andrea finds that her poetry, besides being a creative outlet, can also be used as a tool for healing old wounds, releasing pent up emotions, gaining greater self-awareness, and inspiring others. It is with the hope of inspiring others that she continues to share her poetry.

This book of poetry is dynamic, emotional and raw. It is written from the authors real life experiences and tells of her perceptions and challenges from childhood to adulthood in a style that is clear, healing and empowering.

The theme of what it means to be female is expressed often succinctly and to the point, making the poems easy to read and understand. Women of all ages can relate to these poems and some have even said upon hearing them that they sounded like the author was telling their story. Andrea prompts, propels, provokes, and gently insists that we absorb and embrace her deep re-inspections of what it now means to be woman and black.

She gives us nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, no room for selfdeception and convenient amnesia. Hers is the poetry of coming clear, of in-depth reflection, re-minding, re-membering, and resurrection. What a magnificent journey --- the promise, pain, power, and possibilities of being woman and black, of falling, of rising once more, of being free, of living again, of being.

Thomas A. Gordon, Ph.D. Psychologist/Leadership Coach I loved hearing Andrea Edmonds poetry. Her poetry is clear, her expressions have real meaning, and the style is easy to understand. I really enjoyed her presentation. Budo Bunul (originally from Turkey) Andrea Edmonds helped me to appreciate poetry. She read good examples of how poetry does not have to be over your head to be quality poetry.

I found her to be particularly entertaining. Mike Pozielli I really enjoyed poet Andrea Edmonds. Her poems were full of emotion, and it was apparent she was very passionate about her work. Jasmine Kurtz I found Andrea Edmonds poetry to be very inspiring. I still remember some of the poems she shared.

I was impressed that she shared one of her poems from memory, and it was very powerful. Amy Goldberg Poet Andrea Edmonds was my favorite speaker this semester. I like going to poetry readings, and she presented one of the best Ive heard. Her poetry to me was awe-inspiring.

She took the intimidation out of writing poetry. Neina Langford
